Lepakkoluola is a comic anthology featuring young Finnish comic artists. The anthology has two themes: women in history and love between women. It is scheduled to come out in Helsinki Comic Festival in September 2014.
In historical fiction, women are often woefully underrepresented, and our artists intend to prove that it doesn’t have to be this way. 17 artists will produce 15 comics, and a factual text addressing the same subject shall be included as well.
The subjects appearing in the collection are, among others, Japan during the Edo period, witch hunts, The Second World War, and in more fantastical tones, Ugandan female centaurs, and forest trolls.
The artists included are Ainur Elmgren, Eva Eskelinen, Leppu, Miukki Kekkonen, Anayte ja Matti Delahay, Tubbs, Muura, Ella Kurki, Dawn Davis, Ered, Milla Sainio, Myrntai, multa, Joiuu, Hanna-Pirita Lehkonen, Raakel Hokkanen and Suspu Nousiainen.
2012 Team Pärvelö published the widely popular Hyi, Homoa!-gay comic anthology. A lesbian-themed sequel was requested, and that is the book that will appear in Helsinki Comic Festival 2014, which is appropriately queer-themed.
Team Pärvelö is a Finnish independent comic publisher and art group that has traveled Finland since the year 2008, selling its wares in various events. Our goal is to produce comics we ourselves would like to see being made more often.
To fund the production and printing of the Lepakkoluola-anthology we need Your help. By participating in our Mesenaatti-crowdfunding you will support Finnish comic art as well as earn fame, glory, and lovely prizes.
The minimum sum needed to print out the anthology is 1500 euros. In addition to this we’d like to organize an art exhibition, make some Lepakkoluola merchandise and pay the participants for their wonderful work!
